Motoklik, founded in 2018 by Jens Köpke, a former Research and Development Engineer with Bausch and Lomb and Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur category winner, is seeking to make racers faster and safer by improving their suspension setup, a problem 90% of racers have.
Jens has been racing off-road motorcycles for over 20 years. In 2016, he crashed due to incorrect suspension setup, injuring himself. As a result of this crash, he had the idea to create a product that would give racers information on how to setup their suspension properly for the current track conditions and their riding style.
Motoklik has developed a cloud-based Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning platform in collaboration with the European Space Agency that links, via a mobile app, to an in-house developed motorcycle suspension position monitoring system that provides racers and race teams information on the best suspension set-up for current track conditions.
Motoklik has raised over €300,000 in seed funding from investors, including the South East Business Angel Network (HBAN), Enterprise Ireland, ESA BIC and other private investors. The investment will support the creation of 10 high value jobs in Kilkenny over the next few years. This funding round will put Motoklik in a position to take advantage of the booming off-road motorcycling sector and prove the technology works in one of the world’s toughest environments.
“Motoklik is a ground breaking product in Motorsports,” says Jens. “Where previously data acquisition and management was only for top end race teams, now our AI and Machine Learning system can help teams and racers at every level to find the best setup, letting them concentrate on one thing – Winning!”
South East BIC has worked with Jens since Motoklik was at concept stage, throughout the business planning and validation stage and worked closely with Jens and the Motoklik team to prepare them for investment – and supporting them throughout the investment process via the South East Business Angel Network (SEBAN) and preparing the strategy to accessing Enterprise Ireland HPSU investment.
Jens said of his experience “The team at South East BIC supported us every step of the way in our strategic and business planning journey and without them we could not have accessed investment. They worked closely with us around business modelling, planning, sales, marketing and financial management and then supported the process all the way to investment’.
Aidan Shine, CEO of South East BIC said ‘Jens is a passionate Founder with deep domain knowledge of the industry and has identified a clear pain point for his target market. The BIC team thoroughly enjoyed working with him as his commitment to the process was so impressive. We are excited to be part of his growth trajectory.”
