Hamstrings are one of the most frequently injured muscle groups in sport and they can be extremely costly to clubs and organisations. Historically, hamstring resilience and rehabilitation was limited by a lack of practical assessment and monitoring tools. However, the Hamstring Solo, developed by Noel Doherty of Kilkenny-based ND Sports Performance ensures this is no longer the case. The Hamstring Solo Pro (www.HamstringSolo.com) is an exercise aid that enables athletes and players to safely perform a diversity of high-tension isometric, eccentric and concentric exercise options at a wide variety of velocities and angles: improving hamstring performance and hamstring resilience. The Hamstring Solo Elite adds high level objective fact-based data to the equation. It adds sensors together with a multi-functional iOS and Android data collection app and cloud-based storage platform.
The Challenge
Developing a product and marketing and selling it internationally requires a strategic plan and corresponding investment. Noel needed assistance in the development of this strategy and direction and support in accessing investment.
The Solution
In 2016, Doherty engaged with South East BIC who worked with him on his strategy for commercialisation, growth and scaling internationally. This involved workshopping the strategy using business modelling and other strategic tools and developing an investor-ready business plan. The team ensured he was investor-ready to pitch for angel investment through HBAN (Halo Business Angel Network) and also prepared him for Enterprise Ireland HPSU investment.
The Outcome
Noel raised €300,000 via HBAN and Enterprise Ireland through HPSU funding. The funding is being used to hire essential management particularly in sales & marketing and invest in further research & development particularly around new product innovation.
“Working with South East BIC’s consultants gave our business a strategic edge in preparing for investment. They worked with our team to ensure we were both investible and investor-ready. Through the Halo Business Angel Network (HBAN) they matched up with our private investor and then worked to ensure we received balanced funding from Enterprise Ireland as a High Potential StartUp. We recommend them to any innovative startup in the South East”.
